Being Selfless is Better Than Being Selfish

Why do we need a certain date to celebrate love, which we call it as Valentine's Day,  if we have to love each other everyday? Is it necessary to celebrate this if we can show the love that we had to others anytime? Questions running through my mind whenever the month of February is about to come every year. But what is valentine's day all about? Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

When we think of this day, the first thing that comes to our minds is on how we will celebrate it. On how we can make this day memorable and on how we can make ourselves happy, together with our love ones and special someone. While attending a mass, a priest once told us during the homily that this day is not for ourselves. It is about being selfless. You don't need to become selfish within this day. Do not think about yourself, on how you can celebrate it but you need to think of others. Forget about yourself for a while to help others. It's a day to show your love within others through simple things. On how you can manage to become a reason behind someone's smile. On how you can prosper the world especially others in need, with kindness and love.

Valentine's Day is an annual festival to celebrate to show some love. It is not just for lovers but for all of us. The love we had for our friends, family, and the people around us, no matter who and what they are. Now that we are facing this pandemic, we need to upgrade these things on another level to show them love still as we limit face-to-face interactions and as well as mass gatherings. So why not complete this day by doing special things to make them happy such as sending messages of love and admiration to them to feel the true essence of this beautiful day full of love. Just remember that it is okay to be selfless, at least you are not being selfish.
